Hi.
I see that Victor Reijs recently joined our Forum. He is the moderator of the ArcheoAcoustics group:
http://scratchpad.wikia.com/wiki/Archaeoacoustics
(I do not have a better link for this...).

The simulation of the sound in ancient buildings, possibly not existing anymore, has been one of the main reasons for which the Ramsete and Aurora programs were created.
You can see traces of this initial effort on the following web pages (in Italian, but you can always have Google to translate them in your favourite language):
http://www.ramsete.com/Intrepidi/Intrepidi.HTM
http://www.ramsete.com/Siracusa/Siracusa.HTM
http://www.ramsete.com/Farnese/Farnese.htm

Thanks to these initial researches, our colleagues at the University of Ferrara managed to enter inside the consortium who won the EC-funded Theatron project:
http://www.theatron.org/
Unfortunately, however, the software chosen for the Theatron project was Odeon, not Ramsete, albeit at the time Odeon did not have an auralization module capable of creating realistic pressure impulse response...

Quite impression work!!! I see some of this is in the open air, but I assume you can still use an indoor program due to the amount of artificial objects. Correct?
Stone circles, certainly standing outside, would be more difficult> But monuments like Stonehenge and standing somewhere inside it, I assume an indoor program will work ok-ish?
Would be nice to know when to use what methodology!
As most monuments are not there, it is quiet difficult to compare.

Are the sounds provided here the real or the auralised sounds? Would be nice to be able to compare.

All the best,

Victor

These (Farnese) are auralizations made with measured impulse responses. It is interesting to compare them with those of the Teatro degli Arcimboldi, which are from Ramsete simulations...
